Tips for Success with the Patch
For Best Install, do the following
1. Reboot the Machine in a Clean State
2. Give the patch time, it can take several up to 20 minutes to do it's job. Don't try to stop it in mid process if it appears to hang or stop updating. In fact, don't even touch the keyboard or mouse while it is updating or run other applications (hence the Clean Boot).
3. Make sure you update your mods, see next Post

Mods will need to be updated to have a File Date that is after the Patch Update Date. In other words, if you patch the game on 01/16/09 at 8:00PM, then your mods will have to have file dates later than that.

To do this, load the mod into Geck and then Save it after you have installed the Patch. Or, use FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) and drag the esm to the top of the list.
Note, you may need to rethink your mod mix after patching too. In past games, patches have caused some mods to give issues and make the game unplayable. So, to test, start a new character with no mods selected, and then add mods back one at a time to test for issues.

Additional Information on the Patch and Mods from Timeslip
- The patch changes the timestamp on fallout3.esm, which changes its position in the load order if the player has any other esm mods installed. (Of which there are many; most pre-geck mods were made in tessnip by copy/pasting the header from fallout3.esm without changing the this-is-an-esm flag, so even if the mod is named *.esp it still behaves like an esm.) That load order change is what breaks save games, and can be easily fixed in fomm by right clicking fallout3.esm and clicking 'move to top'.
- FOSE betas 1 to 3 aren't compatibile with the patch. If someone is using any fose mods they need to get beta 4 or they wont work correctly.
- Anyone using my (as in Timeslip's) Games for Windows Live patch needs to remove it before attempting to install the patch, and not reinstall it again afterwards until I update it: It causes the 'ordinal <xxxx> is missing from xlive.dll' error, and probably interferes with the g4wl marketplace installation too. (Not that blocking that installation is a bad thing, imo...) I'm not sure if quarn's g4wl patch causes the same problem too, but it's very possible that it does.
