Hi !

I've got great saves of an old playing time Morrowind,

right now I've set another version of Morrowind but,

when I launch "Morrowind Launcher" I see my imported saves "in Data Files",

with "Morrowind.esm is required for this file to be loaded, and it has been changed more recently than this file.  You might experience problems with the game."

So when I launch the games, I can't find saves under the Load section !

See you.

The warning you get is harmless, and will disappear once you save again.

If you're on Vista or Windows7, your save files are likely hidden. You need to make sure that you have full Admin control over the files so that the game will recognize them.
The easiest way to do this is just move your Morrowind install out of Program Files.

Hi ! Thank you very much for your answer.

I don't think the problem is about files permissions : I'm running Morrowind through WINE with Linux ?

They're located in Morrowind/Saves? The Saves directory doesn't get created until you make your first in game save.

Hi !

Yes they are in Morrowind/Saves ! The game sees the newly saves, but NOT the imported ones !!

Check this and try moving your saves to the location specified there.

Hi Pupp, I'm sure !

I've progressed, I've found a new step :

I've created a new game, and test the F9 (quick load) to force to load the imported "quiksave.ess" :

The selected master files and plug in may have changed since this save game was created. Errors may occcur during load or game play.
Do you wish to continue ?

So it work for the quick Save, do you have an idea to see other saves ?

Were the old saves created with a Windows Machine or your Linux rig? If they are from a Windows machine, your rig may not even be able to use the files, much less have the game read them. More than likely it is because the save file uses a DOS 8.3 subname and not the name of the file like you expect in later OS's.

The way it works is, you first make a save in the game to create the Saves Directory, then you move whatever saves you have into that created directory. If the game can not read them, it is probably because of a file name issue. You might try renaming the saves in your Linux shell and then maybe the game will see them.

Hi CCNA,

first thank you for helping me,

as I wrote "I tested it under Windows 7 (another computer) the same problem",

so the problem should not be about the OS, but the Morrowind application itself.

I deliberately omitted to add that after the "forced quick Load" worked,

I saw many many messages of this kind :

"Could not find Interior Cell 'Ald Daedroth, aile droite' during SafeGame load.

Continue running executable?"

So I clicked "yes" during more than 10 minutes I think, and after that the game loaded perfectly.

In fact you see that the message is in french, I think that the problem could be load a french save in a english Morrowind v. ?

So if someone have an idea to load other saves oand/or to fix them It would be cool !

If your computer is running say an English version of Morrowind, and you are trying to load an save game from say a French version of Morrowind, you would have to open up the save game with something like say Enchanted Editor and edit that save game to change those cell names (and anything else that is in French for that matter) to what the English version of Morrowind expects to see I would think.

It also sounds to me like your old saves have dependencies on mods that you are not using any more. you may want to see what mods your old saves are using that you may or may not have in your load list.

Also if the quick load works and you save the old game over does the new save of the old game work?

To go back to my analogy for a moment....if the English version of Morrowind has all the correct mod file names, and these mods themselves were created in an English CS....the save game being in French would still have the exact same issues as it would be depending on French version of the mods, which are not present.  In this case, judicious use of EE to edit the save and perhaps Wrye Mash to edit the save masters should help smooth things out.

Hi Spirithawke and Drakkmore, thank you for your answers !

Yes, the new save of the old game work !
The funny thing is that in my diary there is now a mix between french (old ones) and english text...
And about mod, I've never set up any Morrowind one !
