BOSS

 
A plugin load order optimiser for TES III: Morrowind, TES IV: Oblivion, Nehrim - At Fate's Edge, TES V: Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

 
Introduction
 
BOSS is designed to assist mod users in avoiding detrimental conflicts, by setting the correct load order for the plugins they have installed.
 
BOSS also provides thousands of plugin-specific messages, including usage notes, Bash Tag suggestions, requirements, incompatibilities, bug warnings and installation mistake notifications. It supports the sorting of plugins ghosted by the Wrye *ash (Wrye Bash, Wrye Flash, Wrye Flash NV, Wrye Smash) utilities, is highly customisable, has been translated into multiple languages, and is simple to use.
 
Although BOSS recognises tens of thousands of plugins, it is not a complete solution to load ordering issues, as there are many more mods available. To properly place unrecognised plugins, a good working knowledge of mod load ordering is still necessary, for which some research and documentation reading will go a long way. See the Introduction To Load Orders section of BOSS's readme for an overview.
 
While BOSS technically supports TES III: Morrowind, no mod plugins are recognised and no further support is planned. Morrowind users looking for an automated load order manager should consider using mlox instead.
 
BOSS also has an API that gives programmers access to almost all of BOSS's functionality, plus more general load order management functionality that greatly simplifies working with load orders across the supported games. See the BOSS API Readme for more information on that.

General discussion, and the submission of questions, suggestions and unrecognised or unclean mods, takes place in BOSS's official threads for Oblivion, Nehrim, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
 
User contribution of additions and corrections to the masterlist are vital to the upkeep of BOSS. Let us know what you know.
 
Lists of unrecognized mods are welcome but the only way we can include them in the database in a timely way is if we get:
 
  • The ESP/ESM file name(s).
  • A link to where the description, download or readme can be found to read or download.
  • A brief description of each mod will also help. Feel free to make load order suggestions.
  • Lists of unclean mods are also very welcome, but for the report to be most useful we require:
     
  • The ESP/ESM file name(s).
  • The number of records removed (the ITM count) as shown by TES4Edit/FO3Edit/FNVEdit/TES5Edit (not the number of records processed).
  • The number of records undeleted (the UDR count) as shown by TES4Edit/FO3Edit/FNVEdit/TES5Edit (not the number of records processed).
  • The CRC(s) of the unlcean ESP/ESM file name(s). Make sure that the CRCs are of the uncleaned files, not the files after cleaning. The CRC(s) may be calculated using BOSS, Wrye *ash or 7-zip, with other sources being unverified as correct. In the case of 7-zip, the "CRC checksum for data" is the one required.

    License
     
    BOSS is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0, aside from the documentation, which is distributed under the GNU Free Documentation License v1.3. For the full text of both licenses, see the included "Licenses.txt" file.
     
    While the GPL license allows anyone to make derivative works of BOSS, the BOSS Development Team encourages those thinking of doing so to first discuss their reasoning for such an endevour with the Team. It may be that what the derivative work would do differently from BOSS itself is already planned for a future version of BOSS or would be happily integrated into BOSS by the Team, thus avoiding any extra effort by others.
     
    The BOSS Team also appeals to the community to avoid the distribution and development of alternative masterlists, as this would only hamper the community effort to create one universally-optimised load order for all plugins available for download. Any issues with a masterlist are best brought to the attention of the BOSS Team so that we may remedy them ourselves.

    Adjusts various difficulty and damage game settings to make combat a bit easier.

    The mod, Wyrmslayer.esp (Checksum: C5726C66) is given the following Bash Tag suggestions by BOSS: {{BASH: Delev, Relev}}. However, scanning it with the TES5Edit 3.0.30 Bash Tag auto-detection script gives an output of "no tag suggested". Can anyone confirm if this mod really needs those bash tags?

    From its mod description, it seems to me that it doesn't need Delev/Relev bash tags. Can anyone confirm?

    Wyrmslayer - Two handed Katana  - Adds a two handed katana to Skyhaven Temple with the same effect as the Dragonbane. Can be improved at a grindstone.

     This Mod alters the random way in which the radiant quests are given by the Companions to modify the chances that the special radiant quests will be the ones given once available. The “Totems of Hircine” quest is now significantly more likely to be given. Farkas will now only offer the “Purity” quest once his brother Vilkas has completed it. It also unlocks the hidden “Animal Pelt Collection” radiant quest and adds it to Aela’s potential quest choices.
    It does not add, change or remove any of the main Companion quests.

    With this Mod installed, if you equip a Mage staff in your left hand, you’ll be able to use it as normal, but, if you equip it in your right hand, it will allow you to wield it as a fully functional two-handed melee weapon. Simply place the staff in your right hand and start thumping away! To switch back, unequip the fighting staff and then you can equip the Mage staff again in your left hand and start casting spells from it. Nice, simple, straightforward and without fuss or any extra content required to make it work.

    I’ve only added the fighting mage staff to the standard staves so not every staff will have the option, but, if there’s enough interest, I’ll consider extending it to other staves.

    Please note that ASIS requires KamiTH.esp and ScaryGhosts.esp to be loaded above ASIS yet BOSS always automatically sorts them below. I only realized this because of Dual Sheath Redux Patch constantly tells me.

    the masterlist does benefit greatly from user input in regards to the proper order of plugins. When the author has indicated certain plugins should have a specific order and, it's a reasonable placement then updating the masterlist is the appropriate action. There are times when the BOSS team should take a look to make sure the author has provided a reasonable suggestion. However, when the plugin is dynamically created by a SkyProc patcher as in the case of ASIS using the User Rule editor is the appropriate action.

    Please note that ASIS requires KamiTH.esp and ScaryGhosts.esp to be loaded above ASIS yet BOSS always automatically sorts them below. I only realized this because of Dual Sheath Redux Patch constantly tells me.

    ASIS is a dynamically created plugin.  It is not made with the CK.  The masters and the order of the masters changes when you build it. Therefore as mentioned, you should be using the BOSS GUI.exe to add a user rule and order KamiTH.esp and ScaryGhosts.esp the way the author indicates on the description page of their mod(s).  After it's ordered correctly you can do one of two things 1) create a new ASIS patch 2) leave it if you don't intend to build a new file.  If you chose to rebuild the patch then after it is rebuilt it won't require a different load order. If you need further assistance building the ASIS patch so the master files follow your load order post your question in the comments section for ASIS.

    For future reference, and I will try to update this on the TES5Edit page at a later date. The Bash tags script was an attempt to make a script for automatically determining tags for Wrye Bash. However, it was left unfinished and I have tested it.  It does not properly calculate Delev and Relev tags. Since the Patcher for Wrye Bash is incomplete only Delev and Relev tags matter at this point.  You can enter the other tags if you wish because they might be useful in the future.  If you need a refresher on Relev and Delev tags you can look at this post.  If you are a commiter on the BOSS team please do not use the Delev and Relev suggestions from the "BASH tags autodetection.pas" instead commiters should manually look at the leveled list to determine the proper tags to add to the masterlist.  The script is still included with the TES5Edit download because it shows examples of the available scripting functions.

    Sorry about that.  I only noticed recently that a few members were referencing tags and stating that they used TES5Edit's script to determine them.  Otherwise i would have mentioned it sooner.

    Shouldn't do. Though if it was working before and now it isn't, maybe I broke something...

     

    EDIT: The old thread is locked, so I can't quote it (stupid...), but here's my reply to this post:

     

    Firstly, BOSS hasn't been an acronym for anything for a while - it used to stand for "Better Oblivion Sorting Software", but that changed soon after it started supporting other games, IIRC (it's certainly never referred to by that name in any of its documentation any more).

     

    Secondly, calling it "Bethesda Order Sorting Software" would make sense, but there are probably some legal issues with using their name, and even if there weren't it does give the impression of endorsement by Bethesda, which isn't true.

     

    For what it's worth, I think BOSS is just too well known within the community to warrant a name change.

    Hmm:

    Warning to BOSS users: regardless of what BOSS says, do not attempt to clean any of the BBLS plugins with TES5Edit. There are no "dirty edits" in them but there are some ITM records that are put there on purpose to make them work correctly. BOSS is clever, but it's not that clever

    Warning to BOSS users: regardless of what BOSS says, do not attempt to clean any of the BBLS plugins with TES5Edit. There are no "dirty edits" in them but there are some ITM records that are put there on purpose to make them work correctly. BOSS is clever, but it's not that clever

    Smooth blade draw and sheath

     

    ESP name : ADS.esp

     

    The mod contains sounds to replace the draw and sheath sounds of the blades, lowered enchanted draw/sheath and muted sounds for critical hit, left hand draw/sheath and activate fail noise.

    But the esp is part of the audio dynamic sneak (ads), which allows you to get rid of the screaming attacks while you sneak, and also diminished the volume of the swings and draw/sheath sounds in the same manner. ADS needs Skse 1.06.16 or later to run.

    All the feature comes with an installer where you can tick your options.

     

    TESedit cleaned.

    More sound options conflict with ADS feature : A patch has been released

    Description

    This mod adds 5 legendary rings to Skyrim that previously appeared in Morrowind. I thought Skyrim severely lacked in powerful magic jewelry and this mod goes some length to remedy that problem;)

    In Morrowind all the “unique” rings just used the same model with some texture variations, making them not so unique at all. That’s why I tried my hand at some brand new models, fitting to the lore behind each artifact! Only one of the rings is modeled after the Morrowind original, so there’s a lot more visual difference between them. Also the model for the Ring of Khajiit was actually made by bethesda. The model and textures were present in the games .BSA files, but were never put in game. I just added it to this mod because it seemed like a fitting addition.

    There’s a vanilla and Dawnguard version available for this mod! Obviously, you should only get the Dawnguard version if you have Dawnguard. There’s actually not much difference between the two. The Danwguard version adds another function to the Vampiric Ring (read more below).
