BOSS

A plugin load order optimiser for TES IV: Oblivion, Nehrim - At Fate's Edge, TES V: Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.


Introduction

BOSS is designed to assist mod users in avoiding detrimental conflicts, by setting the correct load order for the plugins they have installed.

BOSS also provides thousands of plugin-specific messages, including usage notes, Bash Tag suggestions, requirements, incompatibilities, bug warnings and installation mistake notifications. It supports the sorting of plugins ghosted by the Wrye *ash (Wrye Bash, Wrye Flash, Wrye Flash NV, Wrye Smash) utilities, is highly customisable, has been translated into multiple languages, and is simple to use.

Although BOSS recognises tens of thousands of plugins, it is not a complete solution to load ordering issues, as there are many more mods available. To properly place unrecognised plugins, a good working knowledge of mod load ordering is still necessary, for which some research and documentation reading will go a long way. See the Introduction To Load Orders section of BOSS's readme for an overview.

Contributions & Help

General discussion, and the submission of questions, suggestions and unrecognised or unclean mods, takes place in BOSS's official threads for Oblivion, Nehrim, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

User contribution of additions and corrections to the masterlist are vital to the upkeep of BOSS. Let us know what you know.

Lists of unrecognized mods are welcome but the only way we can include them in the database in a timely way is if we get:



  • The ESP/ESM file name(s).
  • A link to where the description, download or readme can be found to read or download.
  • A brief description of each mod will also help. Feel free to make load order suggestions.

Lists of unclean mods are also very welcome, but for the report to be most useful we require:

  • The ESP/ESM file name(s).
  • The number of records removed (the ITM count) as shown by TES4Edit/FO3Edit/FNVEdit/TES5Edit (not the number of records processed).
  • The number of records undeleted (the UDR count) as shown by TES4Edit/FO3Edit/FNVEdit/TES5Edit (not the number of records processed).
  • The CRC(s) of the unlcean ESP/ESM file name(s). Make sure that the CRCs are of the uncleaned files, not the files after cleaning. The CRC(s) may be calculated using BOSS, Wrye *ash or 7-zip, with other sources being unverified as correct. In the case of 7-zip, the "CRC checksum for data" is the one required.

License

BOSS is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0, aside from the documentation, which is distributed under the GNU Free Documentation License v1.3. For the full text of both licenses, see the included "Licenses.txt" file.

While the GPL license allows anyone to make derivative works of BOSS, the BOSS Development Team encourages those thinking of doing so to first discuss their reasoning for such an endevour with the Team. It may be that what the derivative work would do differently from BOSS itself is already planned for a future version of BOSS or would be happily integrated into BOSS by the Team, thus avoiding any extra effort by others.

The BOSS Team also appeals to the community to avoid the distribution and development of alternative masterlists, as this would only hamper the community effort to create one universally-optimised load order for all plugins available for download. Any issues with a masterlist are best brought to the attention of the BOSS Team so that we may remedy them ourselves.

On the subject of Morrowind. Since the OP clearly states we're not planning any further additions to the list (ignore the fact that I've done a handful of them) should we even be advertising this as being useful for Morrowind? The OP currently sends a mixed message.

I think it might be best to simply remove any references to Morrowind and perhaps even have the code actively tell people it isn't supported and that they should use mlox instead.

We need a new Bash thread. Up if there was one I'd report this there.

In my recent game and with recent versions of bash svn it seems that all my tamriel trader's from CorepC mod have the exact same hair style. I'm using this optional Beauty plugin. So I re-read the readme and it states:

Load Order and Bash Settings:

You Must load this Plugin Before

TamrielTravellers.esp, or 4MMM, 4OOO Version, and SITravellers. In order for New Eyes and Hair to be imported correctly and features of those plugins to work has well.

Do not activate in wrye bash, do this below instead..

In Bash right click on Bash Patch, select rebuild,
must Select file in Merge Patches!
must select File in Import NpcFaces!

If done correctly then 87 Npcs should get changed.

Load Order Once Again Since it very Important Once Again:

TamrielTravellers.esm
TamrielTravellers Cosmetics Cobl or RBP.esp
TamrielTravellerAdvScript.esp
TamrielTravellers.esp (4MMM or 4OOO)
ShiveringIsleTamrielTravellers.esp
TamrielTravellersItems*.*

But this is not what BOSS has and BOSS loads TamrielTravellers Cosmetics Cobl or RBP.esp way down near the bashed patch.

Moving it back up and merging it, however, did not fix the issue and they all still have the same hair style, which looks to be from Ren's pack.

So ultimately it seems to be a bash issue, but this is a start in trying to figure it out.

The next version of BOSS won't support Morrowind, I'll also go ahead and remove the references from the OP now.

Wow, it's getting kinda slow...

Dirty mod report! This is a fun one, too:

Blacktache's Secrets v3.esp: CRC F69CC41C, 48 ITM, 155 UDR

It's already listed. This mod removes Abandoned Mine 02. Apparently, he meant to copy the cell, but renamed it instead. Or something... the transition from Abandoned Mine 01 to 02 is gone (deleted), and Abandoned Mine Caverns was renamed to Janton Mine. It also makes a dirty edit to ChestHouseHealingUpper01 (changes the contents) and changes how many nuggets you can get from silver and gold veins, but whether or not the latter should be considered a dirty edit is beyond me.

Just to say thanks for all the work you wrinklyninja (and whoever else contributed to the BOSS) have made. Without it, using mods would quite often be a nightmare I think.

I've got a lot going on, but if it'd help, I could hop on board to at least go through and fill in all of these dirty mod reports for mods already in there and some general masterlist cleanup if it's needed in any of them.

Not much, but I figured I'd offer. Can't do much more than that at the moment due to various reasons, one being platform issues and all.

I'd be glad to help, but I'm a bit afraid that I'd need to consult every other's plugin place and tags, because my lack of thourogh knowlage that some of you guys have. But if you'll be unable to find a more knowlagable folk, I could always try...

Currently http://oblivion.nexu....com/mods/42780 (Maskar Oblivion Overhaul) should be loaded AFTER Bashed Patch to avoid levelled lists removing. Probably it's not listed in BOSS yet, but I don't know the plugin name, so...

BetterInns + NewHomeOwners.esp (already listed) should have the {{Actors.AIPackages}} tag, since it adds sleep packages to many publicans; it *might* also need Actors.Anims, as it adds new walk animations to them too (this isn't the central focus of the mod, just an additional thing).

It is listed in the BOSS, so it's necessary to either move it manually to the end of load order, or to "Edit User Rules" in the BOSS, and make it so that "Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul.esp" loads after the Bashed Patch.

I have a question: I use both BOSS and Wrye Bash and have noticed that they sometimes disagree with regard to the Bash Tags that they recommend/auto-assign. Which programm should I trust/who is right? BOSS or WB?

If a mod (Recastable Summons http://oblivion.nexu...s.com/mods/3085 ) changes spell duration and I don't see it ingame, am I right to add SpellStats tag on it?

OOO-LightOfDawnFlamesWhenDrawnOBSE.esp and OOO-LightOfDawnAlwaysFlames.esp should have the {{Stats}} tag, and maybe {{Scripts}} as well. They change LoD to be one-handed, which changes reach and damage stats; it also changes the scripts so that the flame is always on, regardless of the sword's status. This *might* conflict with 1.35, though, since there's a setting to control the flame now.

Either Oblivion Intensity needs to be lower in the list than where BOSS is putting it, or there's some sort of tagging necessary that I'm not knowledgeable enough to properly set up. I was testing it out tonight and not even running very many mods... just DLC-related stuff and unofficial fix stuff mainly... but two things in particular were wrong in Oblivion Intensity - two things that I had renamed from vanilla Oblivion; "common wolf" was back to being just "wolf", and "boiled leather armor" was back to being "pit armor".
