Unless I'm standing still then I can see what the game is supposed to actually look like /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
ETA on patch? /dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

Cvnticvs - I will definitely give this a shot as soon as I get home and let you know the results. This is a good find!

It does improve a bit...but I repeat, a bit. It's not a silver bullet, but it's better than nothing. Ultimately we need a patch. But ID seems like a pretty active company. I'm confident they'll sort it. The way they made their engine is that if there's a problem on one platform it's on all of them (though may vary in severity). This one happens to be on all of them (apparently it's worse on PC). It's the biggest complaint. They ought to fix it.

Oh I didn't expect it to be the miracle cure all /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> But if it helps even a bit, I'm happy. I do like the game - and I don't notice the pop-in nearly as much (if at all) when I'm driving or fighting... it's only when I am walking around taking in the scenery so to speak /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I will give this a shot and post back with the results shortly. I'm confident as well that id won't let this slip through the cracks... it's a widely reported problem, and it can likely be resolved with a patch or 2.
Yes, the fact that it doesn't happen when driving around real fast would seem to suggest that it's a bug. Which is good news of a kind. It's not as if I'll we'll not replay such a game. XD

I understand that the PC version has priority as it had a disastrous launch but the texture pop in on the PS3 should definitely be looked at too imo. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and I can take some texture pop in but here it's everywhere, the "fix" posted above does help a bit but still.

Have ID already released a statement about what they're going to do with this?

No announcement yet. What compounds the annoyance is that PSN only updates weekly. If they don't get it out for this week's we'll all have played through it twice, at least, already.

Cvnticvs, if you can confirm my description - the texture pop-in seems to be more graduated when signed out of PSN. Before it just seemed like it was POP, POP, POP in big chunks and was very obvious and at times distracting. For whatever reason, signing out of PSN seems to make it occur more "naturally" if you will. It's definitely still there, but it seems to occur smoother and isn't as jarring to the eye as before. Does that sound accurate to you?
Like I said, the issue is still there... but it doesn't seem as rough as before. I'm no coder/programmer by any means, but it sounds like this could be fixed with a patch. Hopefully they're well aware of it and have their guys/girls working on it as we speak.

I don't know guys, I studied it pretty hard and saw no difference whatsoever. Desert mirage methinks.
I will try it now, but I too am suspecting it to be just a placebo effect.

The pop-ins are overall pretty bad, but they're really bad in the wastland towns. Each time I move the camera I can notice multiple textures pop in. Often they even kinda pop in twice, like at first there are no texture, then you have a low res texture and then finally the full res. loads in. It's so obvious I dunno how anyone can defend the game and think it's okay to play it like this. The graphics are pretty much the selling point of this game so atleast they should be fully optimized.
I really hope a patch will fix this, but I'm not really holding my breath. Some people are complaing, some are not, and I just fear there is nothing ID will or can do at this point.
Some people have reported that using a faster Hard drive cures most of the pop in, but I think you need a SSD and they are expensive as hell and not very big.

Yeah, I've seen some videos on youtube and using an SSD does seem to make the difference.
Rage HDD: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=AJJlyZUWU0E
Rage SSD: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=UsunRUJQpdc
The faster SSD definitely seems to cure the pop-in because of faster texture decompression, however this also leads me to think that a full installation would also be able to do the job.

It is not recommended to get a harddrive with an RPM higher than 5400RPM as it will cause more heat than the PS3 can handle, unless you have a modded cooler for you PS3 I guess that could work. For SSD the PS3 doesn't support it as far as I'm concerned. One of the users here suggested a full install instead of the current 8gb, maybe that'll help fix or at least alleviate the pop-ins as its always faster to read data off of a harddrive than the blu-ray.
edit: Ok, I now know SSD can work with PS3. /facepalm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yeah, just edited my post as soon I as I posted it lol. Pretty weak, if I have to buy a new drive just for one game. Plus, how much does an SSD cost equivalent to 260gb which my PS3 Slim currently holds? Not practical for a console consumer.

Alright - Call me crazy, but after about 15-20 minutes of tooling around the Wasteland on foot and in my buggy I can confirm that Cvnticvs is right; this does seem to alleviate the problem. Please note - like he said before me; *alleviates* the problem, it doesn't FIX it.

I confirm this. It still happens, but the transition is in smaller chunks spread over a wider screen area step by step so your eye only notices one or two little ones in any given area of the screen, instead of a load all in your face. It's sort of an optical illusion really. Your eye just can't see all of them at once as they're more widely dispersed. Also, I've noticed that disabling 1080i and 1080p seems to help. I imagine the game is rendered in 720p anyway. It doesn't sacrifice detail when you do this in my experience.
Oh, also, for anyone who does find this helpful. Don't forget to thank the kind sage who brought this to our attention in the post I linked to. Their name is METALPUNKS. I only brought the news to this subforum, as it was in general discussion.

I have a 160GB PS3 and a 160GB SSD costs around 180 euros (around 240 usd) where I live. And that is the cheapest model, I've seen SSDs been priced at around 3000 euros (ouch...)

Worse on PC? its hell here... everyones freaking out, we're getting updates through our gpu manufacturer, and for almost 60% of us, its still doing nothing... /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> ID release a patch.. wah!It does improve a bit...but I repeat, a bit.
